Job Description

THINK BIG: Grounded in our mission to bring life-changing solar energy and financial services to millions of people across Uganda, you will design and implement a scalable sales strategy, building on success to date. You will use our unique data sets of sales patterns and customer demographics to create and refine a portfolio of data-driven strategic sales initiatives tailored for this large and underserved consumer market in emerging markets.

Furthermore, you will contribute significantly to the Strategic Planning process at global and national levels. The lessons you learn in Uganda will be applied to new markets as we scale across Africa.

MAKE THINGS HAPPEN: You will be responsible for the implementation and success of our sales strategy. You and your team will recruit, train, manage, and retain a highly motivated team of full time sales managers and thousands of commission based sales agents that will ultimately deliver on our vision of electrifying 2 million households by 2020.


Key Responsibilities 

  • Live and communicate Fenix’s mission to improve the quality of life of our customers
  • Develop and implement a national sales strategy that reaches 2 million+ customers in need of ReadyPay power by 2020, embodies our commitment to providing an exceptional customer experience, and supports strong repayment behavior
  • Test, validate, and refine Fenix Uganda’s strategic sales initiatives based on analysis of our unique data set and field-based insights
  • Continually evaluate Fenix’s sales strategy, sales trends, and customer behaviors plus aspirations and make recommendations to maintain Fenix competitiveness, sales volume, and profitability
  • Lead and manage the existing sales team of Sales Managers, Business Strategy Associates/Analysts, and thousands of freelance sales agents including testing and setting compensation, targets and incentive structures across the salesforce to deliver growth
  • Support team development by performing regular reviews and trainings, retaining high performing team members, and finding creative ways to boost low performing sales team
  • Collaborate with the Operations Manager to support distribution and stock management procedures
  • Monitor and record relevant trends and business intelligence (from both field and desk) in the Ugandan market and make recommendations to Fenix leadership to continually improve Fenix’s product and brand positioning
  • Create and own relationship management of key stakeholders within the sales process, especially with distribution partners
  • Identify and assess additional sales channels to expand sales coverage across Uganda including distributors, corporation and NGO partners
  • Uphold and help continually build the Fenix culture which always embraces the Fenix’s vision and values and always puts the customers experience first


Experience & Qualifications 

  • At least 5 years working in a senior role within a progressive sales environment with strong, definable results
  • Proven experience managing and leading large teams within a commercial business environment
  • Time spent within a fast moving, start-up or rapidly growing organization
  • Experience or passion for developing markets, ideally in Sub-Saharan Africa
