At Fenix we are constantly innovating new hardware products which include, but are not limited to: 1) solar energy systems, 2) lighting products, and 3) electronic and non-electronic devices, which are financed and powered by the Fenix ReadyPay System. Our ambitious roadmap of future life-changing products will continue to  provide greater inclusivity, quality, and value to our customers.

The China Operations Director will be responsible for developing and implementing our China manufacturing and sourcing strategy to deliver products to the market which meet our tight schedule, high quality, and aggressive budget targets.  He or she will also oversee the China operations, engineering, and support teams.

The candidate must have have strong communications skills, great executive presence, excellent negotiation skills, and the ability to drive cross functional teams for closure.  We are seeking a very driven, proactive, hands-on, detail-oriented team member who can also handle ambiguity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership: Lead the Fenix manufacturing and operations team in China.  This includes, but is not limited to:
    • Create and communicate a strong vision for Fenix’s China operations
    • Ensure Fenix China embodies the core values of the company
    • Build a high-performing, passionate team with a strong culture,
    • Relentlessly pursue an exceptional customer experience through sourcing and manufacturing of the most affordable, highest quality products
    • Drive innovation to ensure Fenix is a market leader in Asian manufacturing and operations
  • Department Set Up & Management:  Set up the following departments and provide leadership and support to each one:
    • Global Supply Chain Management
    • Product Engineering Support & Operations,
    • Quality Management,
    • Supply Chain Management
    • Finance and Talent
  • Strategy & Planning: Work closely with Fenix leadership to develop and execute a cost-efficient high-quality supply chain strategy in China.
  • Team Growth & Culture: Oversee recruitment and retention of top talent needed to achieve Fenix China goals; support training, mentorship, and development of individuals. Resolve conflicts and provide solutions to problematic situations. Be a role model to the entire company by embodying Fenix values and culture.
  • Goals, Targets, & Incentives: Ensure the team has clear goals, targets, and incentives to support growth in key areas including engineering, operations, and finance. Collate team reports and report feedback to contribute directly to Fenix leadership.  Provide management insights and analysis on key performance indicators and progress towards targets.
  • Engagement of Partners: Work with suppliers to build long-term relationships, negotiate commercial agreements, and ensure that Fenix’s long-term strategy is represented in partner objectives. Open up new contacts, networks, partnerships, and opportunities for Fenix China.
  • Business Excellence & Iterative Improvement: Take overall responsibility for the quality of the business in China, including but not limited to manufacturing, product development, and finance. Continuously iterate to improve on processes that maximize efficiency and product quality.
  • Financial Management and Stewardship: Oversee Fenix China’s financial performance at the highest level by providing support and strategic guidance to the finance team and departments to properly budget, forecast, and review expenses and revenues.
  • Manage Internal Communications: Communicate regularly and effectively to the entire organization on team decisions, policy, operational issues, and organizational/strategic changes.
  • Manage External Communications: Take responsibility for all external China communications. Act as public speaker and public relations representative to strengthen Fenix’s profile.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven leadership experience. We are looking for someone experienced in leading teams, building business relationships, and achieving results
  • Experience working within a growth company. Ideally someone who has planned, developed, and scaled a China operations team focused on fast moving consumer goods
  • Passion for improving the quality of life of our customers
  • Ability to maintain big-picture vision while simultaneously focusing on the minute details
  • Ability to use data to make smart decisions, while maintaining the ability to make decisions in the absence of data if it doesn’t exist
  • Strong communication (written and verbal, in English and Mandarin) and interpersonal skills
  • High competency with IT and technology
  • Thrives on teamwork
  • Work experience in China & commitment to live and work with Fenix in China for at least 3 years
  • Humility & willingness to roll up sleeves
  • Willingness and ability to travel within China and internationally
