Job Description

As part of Fenix’s engagement to bring life-changing products to theirs customers, Fenix is expanding its product base to include a new range of clean-cooking products and services (CCPS). Fenix is looking for a highly motivated, innovative and  well organised Business Data Analyst to join this new team. The Business Data Analyst will be responsible for making data driven strategic recommendations that will directly contribute to the Fumba business plan, model and processes, as well as regional business development efforts.

This position offers an incredible opportunity to work with a team of business development professionals and engineers and directly contribute to the success of the Fumba Team startup. Candidates must have a passion for entrepreneurship, renewable energy and sustainable development in Frontier Markets.

As a Business Data Analyst, you will be based in Kampala, Uganda, working on critical projects with immediate impact under the supervision of the Business Development Manager. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Update the financial business plan as new data is collected and hypotheses refined
  • Build scenarios into the financial model (including cost analysis, break even, etc.) and strategically analyze results
  • Design and develop interactive dashboards and reports to make key strategic decisions that will impact the entire business with the use of our data analytics and visualization software 
  • Develop cutting edge new metrics and analyses to evaluate customer trends and behavior
  • Conduct macro data analysis of potential new markets (new customer market segments and new geography) and draw actionable recommendations
  • Collaborate with the software team on database architecture and data collection methodologies
  • Explore cost optimization strategies in the different departments of business whilst maintaining an excellent customer experience
  • Set up and conduct A/B tests and perform statistical analysis on the results to drive necessary business and marketing insights 
  • Identify and communicate areas for continual improvement of service levels and staffing models for the human intensive departments (technical, call center, sales, etc.); recommend and initiate process improvements

Required Skills & Experience

  • A team player who’s also an independent thinker
  • A robust analytical skill-set, endless curiosity and a desire to think outside the box
  • Deadline driven, organized and able to multitask
  • Minimum Bachelor and work experience in data analysis/ statistics/ financial analysis, or related fields
  • One to two years work experience in financial data analysis and/or financial modeling
  • Excellent Excel skills, including capacity to build outstanding charts, diagrams and dashboards
  • Proficiency with statistical analysis programs such as  STATA
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills (English)

Desired Skills

  • Experience with visualization software tools, in particular Tableau strongly desired
  • SQL knowledge and experience
  • Experience in analyzing financial models and write financial scenarios
  • Education and/or work experience in the developing world, ideally East Africa
